Breaking News: New Funding Will More Than Double the Number of Women and Children Housed at Wallis House

By Regina Bette, President/CEO

Aviva Family & Children’s Services is thrilled to announce that it has received funding from the Los Angeles City Council to expand housing to an additional 21 women and their children experiencing homelessness.  Aviva’s Wallis House will now serve up to 36 local families.

“Los Angeles doesn’t have nearly enough supportive housing to match the scale of our homelessness crisis, so I was thrilled to work with Aviva in helping to bridge that gap. With this new funding, Aviva’s residential facility will more than double its capacity to provide a home for the most vulnerable among us -our young children – and take another impactful step forward in their over 100 years of service to the women and children of LA”- Councilmember Raman

We’re grateful to LA City Councilmember Nithya Raman, who advocated and assisted Aviva with securing this funding so we could do more for our community.

A place to call home, and so much more

We first opened Wallis House in October 2019 to 15 women and their children, providing food, clothing, and a safe, clean home to women and children who desperately needed a helping hand. Since then, we’ve also welcomed many volunteers and volunteer organizations to enrich the experience of the women and children who live in Wallis House. Aviva’s support goes beyond the basics of food and shelter to setting a strong foundation for residents to continue their education, build job skills and improve parenting skills.

Despite the many challenges we’ve faced over the last year due to the pandemic, I’m proud to report that Aviva continued to live our mission and create pathways to brighter futures for the women, children and families we serve.

We need your help

Our residents live with hope, and we work to lift them up. We can only do this with the help of our donors and supporters. Public funding doesn’t cover all costs associated with Wallis House. In-kind and monetary donations help bridge the gap for our residents. Give to Wallis House, and learn about other ways to support families including the top needs for in-kind donations, like diapers and laundry detergent.
